Lucky 13

12 WEEKS PREGNANT-13TH WEEK OF DEVELOPMENT

We hit twelve weeks yesterday and are into the thirteenth week of pregnancy! We're still spending some great quality time with my family and glad that we are able to share this journey with them, if only for a few weeks. In a couple of weeks we'll head to where Jim's family lives to spend some time with them before going back to Tokyo.

This week:
-The geekling will grow to about three inches long and the size of a peach (hopefully not as fuzzy!)
-Our baby might be growing faster or more slowly than another baby the same age, though, because this week he or she will set its own pace for growth
-Although probably still headstrong, knowing his or her parents, his or her body will begin to grow faster than his or her head, trying to catch up so he or she isn't so top-heavy (right now his or her head is about half of the size of its body, but will only be about one quarter the size of his or her body by the time we see him/her in November or December)
-The baby's intestines are beginning to move from the umbilical cord into the abdominal cavity and take their permanent positions
-The placenta is growing even larger to protect the geekling, and weighs about an ounce now, far from its end weight which will be about 2lbs.
-This week I will continue my steady redistribution of weight, although I haven't yet gained even 5lbs. (thank God!)
-I have been SO tired this week, a combination of jetlag and pregnancy exhaustion, I'm sure; I've been in the States for a week now, so hopefully my jetlag will be history soon. I'm also moving into my second trimester in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully my pregnancy exhaustion will let me enjoy more than eight or nine hours a day of my vaction soon.

We're hoping that we can continue to spend great time with our wonderful families. We're enjoying our time so far. Of course we're very happy to be together again. But we miss our super comfortable bed, just nothing can compare. Jim especially since when we get back he will have been away from it for three months!

Ju-Ni

11 WEEKS PREGNANT-12TH WEEK OF DEVELOPMENT

Week twelve... I'm a bit late this week in posting because I recently traveled for 22 hours straight, stayed up for 37 hours after sleeping for only 3 1/2 and FINALLY got to see Jim after 8 long weeks apart.

We officially hit 11 weeks on Friday and are into week 12. This week:
-Our baby weighs a full half-ounce and is about the size of a large plum.
-Most of his/her systems are in place, but there is still a lot of development to take place.
-His/her fetal digestive system is beginning to practic contraction movements so that he can eat someday.
-His/her bone marrow is making white blood cells to protect against germs several months down the road (but I will still be that mom that makes you wash your hands before you touch my baby!).
-The baby's pituitary gland has begun producing hormones that will enable him or her to make his or her own babies someday (if it's a girl, some poor boy will have to get past Jim's shotgun first, and that will be after she's about 35).
-As for me, I am still experiencing a lot of nausea. I think it's been worse this week, but it might just be because I have been waking up late and not eating until lunch. Baby (we've affectionately called him/her the beast when hungry) likes to eat.
-I've been having typical dizzy spells, something I experience quite often anyway, but have been worse lately.
-I've had some pretty regular headaches, but generally only on days I throw up.
-We've told some of our family members our news, but not all of them know yet, so mum's still the word for a few more weeks. The ones who know couldn't be more thrilled and we're so excited about that.

Lots going on! I am SO glad to be on vacation!

Kumquat

10 WEEKS PREGNANT-11TH WEEK OF DEVELOPMENT

Our geekling is the size of a kumquat now. What's a kumquat?

We are officially 10 weeks pregnant and moving into the 11th week.
This week:
-The baby will grow to more than 2 inches long, half of which is his or her head (I hope that's more proportional by the time I have to push it out!).
-His or her hair follicles are forming, hopefully preparing to turn into beautiful dark brown hair like his or her daddy.
-Fingernail and toenail beds are beginning to develop and next week his or her nails will start to grow.
-The geekling's body is straightening and his or her torso is lengthening. Hopefully he or she will be long and tall like daddy!
-The baby can do stretches, somersaults and forward rolls (causing all that nausea, I guess).
-We can't tell if he or she is a he or a she yet, but if it's a boy his testes are developing and if it's a girl her overies are growing. Also, he or she has visible nipples. (Weird thought.)
-His or her hands and feet are in front of the body now.
-His or her ears are almost fully developed, nasal passages are open and his or her tongue and palate in the mouth have developed.
-As for me, my nausea should be subsiding soon. Let's hope so, it just keeps getting worse!
-My fatigue hasn't yet slowed down, but should in the coming weeks. My body is working a lot harder than it looks, developing the baby and the placenta so that it can support our little fetus.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Actually Ten

NINE WEEKS PREGNANT (for real this time)-10TH WEEK OF DEVELOPMENT

Not much new to report. Since the due date changed and I'm actually nine weeks (and into my tenth week) now, the baby's development is the information I posted last week.

As far as me, I've been having a LOT more nausea, all day long, with a lot of accompanying retching, but thankfully still no vomiting. Usually it doesn't last all day, but it can come on strong any time of day. I ran this morning, though, and I made it 3 miles before I needed to walk. That's a lot further than I've been making it lately, so that was good. I did a total 7.5 miles, but I only ran the 3. So it made up a bit for my lack of exercise this week. I was too nervous to exercise but the OB said that I should still do it and that if we were that fragile we'd all be extinct. :)

14 days until my vacation to go see Jim and our families! Yay! In 14 days I'll be on a plane heading to the States!
